The 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $400 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship attracted 132 entrants who competed for a total prize pool of $44,814. Tuesday night, the players decided to finish level 15, resulting in only six players returning to play at 2 PM on Wednesday to compete at the final table. The final six reached an agreement on half of the remaining prize pool and continued to play for the remainder.

In the end Roland Israelashvili of Forest Hills, NY and Jim Wilsey of Taunton, MA reached an agreement leaving Jim with $8,500 and The Commemorative Leather Jacket for 2nd, and Roland with $8,657, The Championship Trophy and the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals Championship. After half an hour of play, Michael Genovese, of Brooklyn, NY, found himself all-in on fifth street with Qh10dQd6c2s, going heads-up against Roland who had KsKh7s6h3h. Roland picked-up a pair of J’s while Michael did not improve, leaving Mike going out in 6th although with 5th place money of $3,744.

Sunday – 10/25/2009     $1500  NO LIMIT HOLD’EM

Players: 210 Prize Pool: $280,087

THE TROPHY & $74,605 GO TO VANESSA SELBST!

The 210 entrants who began play on Sunday, in the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $1500 No-Limit Hold’em Championship, were pursuing a prize pool of $280,087. Ten returned at 2pm on Monday to vie for the top prize and when the contest was over, Vanessa Selbst would survive a one hour heads-up battle with Paul Kitsos to capture the Commemorative Leather Jacket, Championship Trophy, and $74,224

It took twenty minutes before we would have our first departure from the Final Table. David Katalan of New York, NY moved all-in with AdQd raising to 168k. Vanessa Selbst called with pocket 4’s. David caught an Ace on the flop, but Vanessa hit a set and with no more help from the board (5c4hAs7h7s), David would settle for 10th and $4,901. Bernard Lee was seeking his fourth consecutive year of winning at least one championship, but unfortunately he would come up short. He found himself moving all-in with KsJd, pushing his last 39k. Cy Watson called with pocket 6’s. The flop gave Bernard J’s but Cy picked-up a set of 6’s. The board completed with Jc6s8cQc3d and Bernard would be heading back to Wayland, MA with a 9th place finish and $6,169. Eighth place and $8,963 went to Charles Croft of Portland, ME, moving all-in, after the turn, with his last 65k. The pot had built up to 350k and with Vanessa carrying a substantial chip lead, she called with KsQc. Charles showed 5d4d and when the board finished at 2sJd7h8s7d, his run came to an end, and Vanessa would add to her chip advantage. Steven Berkowitz would move all-in with pocket Q’s and his last 133k. He was called by Paul with AcJc. The flop (5sAh6c) gave Paul A’s and with the 10h6s to complete the board, Steven would take $12,043 back to Little Neck, NY for finishing 7th.

Friday – 10/23/2009     $500 SENIORS NO LIMIT HOLD’EM

Players: 410 Prize Pool: $174,987

Rawley Hansen survives a hard fought battle to claim the Trophy and $44,797!

There were 410 players to start the $500 Seniors No-Limit on Friday, and when the 14th level was completed early Saturday morning, only 22 hopefuls would return at 2pm to compete for what was left of the $174,987 prize pool. When Rawley Hansen of Brockton, MA and Steve Stankus of Worcester, MA finally met heads-up, the battle was back and forth. The short stack would win several all-in situations until Rawley finally persevered and captured the Championship Trophy, Commemorative Leather Jacket, and $44,797. Play continued for almost four hours before the final table had finally been determined, and it would take almost half an hour before we lost Natale Kuey of Bronx, NY. Natale raised all-in before the flop with his last 110k and was called by Ray Tortorigi who was also all-in with another 80k on top, and Steve, who had them both covered. Natale played 10s10c, Ray showed AdKs, and Steve had AhKc. The board (9s4sKhAc3s) gave Ray and Steve A’s and K’s. Natale would settle for 10th place and $2,274. It only took five minutes before Paul Radochia would raise all-in with Ac4s, pushing his last 89k. He was called by Rawley with AsKs. The board came-out 9cQs5sJhJc and left Paul heading back to Middleton, MA with $3,434 for his 9th place finish. With the blinds at 6k/12k, Bill Donegan of Ea. Hartford, CT found himself all-in with his last 500 chip.

Thursday – 10/22/2009     $400 OMAHA HI-LO (8 or better)

Players: 229 Prize Pool: $77,745

Robert “Bo” Toft claims the Trophy and 1st place money of $14,286!

The 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals Omaha Hi-Lo Championship began with 229 hopeful poker players. With a total prize pool of $77,745 on the line the competition was spirited and in the end it came down to the top five final table chip leaders to decide the Championship. Robert Ricciuti of Johnston, RI would finish 2nd, take the Commemorative Leather Jacket and $10,997. While Bo Toft of Yardley, PA, would claim the Championship Trophy, and $14,287 in cash!

Wednesday – 10/21/2009     $400 NO LIMIT HOLD’EM

Players: 772 Prize Pool: $262,094

$50,372 TO THE FIRST PLACE WINNER BRANDON HAWKINS!

A total of 772 players entered the $400 No-Limit Hold’em event in the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals with a total prize pool of $262,094 on the line, Brandon Hawkins started the final table with the chip lead, fell to third with three players left, and battled back to secure the victory. The final table took almost four hours before Brandon, a resident of Wakefield, RI, and Steven Ditullio of Worcester, MA reached an agreement for the final two spots. Steven took Second Place money of $50,272 and the Commemorative leather jacket, while Brandon claimed the Championship Trophy and the First Place prize of $50,372!

Players: 178 Prize Pool: $60,431

JEREMY SANBORN TAKES THE TOP PRIZE OF $12,000!

The final table of the $400 7-Card Stud returned to play at 2:00 pm and Jeremy Sanborn of Norwich, CT, was able to take his position as the number two chip leader onto victory! The final four reached an agreement that left Jeremy with 1st place money of $12,000 and the Championship Trophy. A total of 178 players began the tournament on Tuesday. Eight players would return on Wednesday to compete for the remainder of the $60,431 prize pool.
