$60,622 TO THE FIRST PLACE WINNER CHRIS SCHONBACH!!
The finale of the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 No-Limit Championship came down to an agreement amongst the final three contestants. Coming into the final table from the seventh chip stack position, was the eventual 2009 FWPF $600 No-Limit Champion Chris Schonbach, from Braintree, MA. Chris finished with a 4 : 1 chip advantage over his next closest competitor and would take a cash prize of $60,622. A total of 528 players started on Wednesday and 13 returned at 2PM on Thursday to compete for the remainder of the $271,445 prize pool. The final table got underway at 3PM and it took fifteen minutes before David Diaz of Bartlett, TN would move all-in with $192k after the flop, against then chip leader Marty Gorenc. David showed KcKh to Marty who had Jc9c which gave Marty two pair on the 8hJh9s flop. The 7s2h completed the board, leaving David in 10th place with a $3,257 payday.
Next to leave was the tables number two chip stack, David Werner, who would also challenge Marty. After the flop came up 10s2c2h, Marty bet 70k only to be raised all-in by David. Marty quickly called with pocket A’s to face David’s pocket 4’s. The board finished 8s9c, and ended David’s run with a 9th place finish and $5,123 to take back home to aunton, MA. Bill Raynor of Harrisville, NH, would move all-in with his last 198k after Marty had raised 82K. Marty would call with pocket 8’s to Bill’s AhKh. The board played out 7c10d2c9h3h giving Marty another notch on his belt, as Bill would earn $7,817 for his 8th place finish. Finishing in 7th and earning $10,532 was the tables initial short stack, Peter Maclellan from Wilmington, MA. Peter raised all-in with 126k and had two callers, Antoine Younes and Jacob Pigeon.
They checked it down to the river with the board showing KsJcQh9s6s. Peter had AsJd, but Antoine showed pocket J’s, cutting short Peter strong comeback effort.
Tom Antonucci would move all-in after the flop came up 7d9d3c. He was called all-in by Jacob Pigeon of
Warwick, RI who had Ac7h. Tom showed Jd8d and caught the flush on the turn with the 5d, leaving Jacob with 6th and $13,247. Only fifteen would pass before Tae Baik would move all-in with his last 121k. He was called by Tom, who played As8d to Tae’s Kd6s. The flop (5h10cAh) gave Tom a pair of Aces and with no help (7sQd) the rest of the way, Tae, a resident of Leonia, NJ would earn $15,961 for 5th. Down to four, Tom would raise to 200k with the blinds at 10k/20k.
Chris raised all-in, and after some deep thought, Tom called all-in with AcKh to Chris’ pocket Q’s. Tom picked up a gut shot straight draw on the flop (8h10cJs) to go with his two overs, but the turn (6s) and river (4h) would leave Daniel in 4th with a $18,675 payday.
The final three, Chris Schonbach of Braintree, MA, Antoine Younes of Augusta, ME, and Marty Gorenc of
Southwick, MA, reached an agreement on the remaining prize pool and would continue to play for the trophy and jacket. Only three hands would go by before all three players found themselves all-in. Marty had 8s7h, Antoine played Ah9h, and Chris showed AsKh. The flop of 4sKs2c gave Chris K’s and the Kc on the turn locked up the hat-trick. Marty would finish 3rd with $32,827, while Antoine took 2nd for $32,828. Chris would take $60,622, the Commemorative Leather Jacket and the Championship Trophy, becoming the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 No-Limit Champion.
