THOMAS RENAULT TAKES $57,749 AND THE TROPHY!!
A total of 330 players entered the $1000 No-Limit Hold’em event in the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals. With a total prize pool of $291,291 on the line, Thomas Renault of Arlington, MA and Fred Kammerer of North Salem, NY reach an agreement where Fred took $57,748 and the Commemorative Leather Jacket, while Thomas captured the Championship Trophy, and $57,749. Sixteen players returned at 2PM on Saturday to continue the quest for the Championship; the final table got under way at 3 pm. An hour would pass with the blinds reaching 6K/12K, when Paul Freedman,of Seabrook, NH would push his last 92K. Paul had As7c, and was called by the big blind, Robert Rosen, who had Ks10h. The flop (Qd6dJd) gave Robert an open ended straight draw which he hit on the turn with the 9d, leaving Paul in 10th earning $4,369.
Johanssy Joseph was next to leave after he moved all-in with 98k. Thomas Renault called with AdJd to Johanssy’s AcKs. The flop (Ad10s10d) gave Thomas a flush draw and the Kd on the turn completed the flush. Missing the K or a 10 on the river (3h), Johanssy would head back to Mansfield, CT with $5,981 for 9th. Louis Pito of Cheshire, CT raised Thomas’ 45k bet by pushing in his last 103k with pocket 9’s. Thomas called with pocket Q’s. The board (5d3cQh8hAc) relegated Louis to 8th position collecting $8,884 for his efforts. Don Stevens of Syracuse, NY, came over the top of Robert’s 45k raise, moving all-in with AdQd, only to see Robert turn over AcKc. Don was happy to see the flush draw after the 8dKd9h came on the flop. Unfortunately for him, the 5h5c completed the
board, and finished Don’s run with the 7th spot and an $11,797 payday.
David DiBiasio picked-up pocket 10’s and would move all-in with his last 65k. Thomas, who was the big blind at 20k and the chip leader would call with Ad9s. The flop (Jd9d8h) was great for David giving him the straight draw, the 8s on the turn did not hurt, but the As on the river left David, a resident of Cranston, RI, in 6th picking up $14,710. Wendell Montgomery of Portsmouth, NH would move all-in with Jh8d pushing his last 102k over
the top of Thomas’ raise to 65k. Thomas called with Ad8s. The board of Qh7c3cKd6s couldn’t keep Wendell in the running as he would take 5th and $17,624. It only took another five minutes before Robert Rosen would raise all-in with his last 236k with AcQh and would be called by Fred Kammerer with Ah9s. The 9cJs10c on the flop gave Fred 9’s and Robert an open ender. The 9d gave Fred trips and the 3c on the river would leave Robert heading back home to Greenwich, CT with $20,681 for his 4th place finish.
After playing for about twenty minutes, Thomas Renault and Fred Kammerer, agree to an equal chop of the final two spots, with Fred taking $57,748 for 2nd along with the commemorative leather jacket. Thomas would become the 2009 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Champion collecting $57,749 and the Championship Trophy.
