Quapaw, OK- Dedicated poker enthusiasts went heads up against Mother Nature for a chance to win life-changing money on national TV when The Heartland Poker Tour returned to Quapaw, Oklahoma. The “Four States” area of Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas saw one of the worst storms in recent history, blanketing the area with ice and snow. Although airports and highways were closed, more than two hundred diehard players found their way to Downstream Casino Resort.
Just two Missouri business owners overcame the storm outside and in to go heads up. Joey McCaig, a Springfield furniture store owner, knocked off every player at the final table before facing Shawn Roberts for $59,891. Roberts, who owns a lighting business in Ozark, proved unstoppable when he hit the flop to pair his ace against McCaig’s gutshot straight draw. Crippled in chips, McCaig survived just a couple more hands before collecting $29,945 in second place.

Quapaw, OK – In an area rich with outlaw history, two young men battled for a bounty that Baby Face Nelson would have envied. With over eighty grand up for grabs, barely-legal poker pros Colin Leighton, 21, and James Darnaby, 23, took no prisoners Sunday night in Quapaw, Oklahoma. Much like Bonnie & Clyde’s aggressive spree through the four-state area, Leighton and Darnaby dueled it out in the spotlight. The local young guns were the latest poker players to go heads up on The Heartland Poker Tour, a nationally-syndicated TV show filming at Downstream Casino Resort.
“They are the future of poker,” said HPT Commentator Fred Bevill. Both men play professionally, making frequent visits to the poker room at Downstream. Just old enough to order a drink at the bar, Leighton says it is often his opponents at the table who want to see his I.D. “I have a baby face,” said the part-time student.
